Submission guidelines

What to prepare before you submit, online or by e-mail.

Preparing your manuscript
  • Send your article as one file. Word (.docx) works best, because figures, tables and equations carry over exactly.
  • Include the names and organisations of all authors.
  • Optionally, add a short abstract and a few keywords. If you submit online and leave them empty, they are read from your document.
  • Articles can be in any language.
Accepted file formats
  • Article: Word (DOCX, DOC), PDF, OpenDocument (ODT), RTF, LaTeX (TEX), Markdown, plain text, or a ZIP archive.
  • Extra files (online): data (CSV, XLSX), images (PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, SVG), PDF, Word, ODT, LaTeX or ZIP.
  • Up to 25 MB per file.
Figures, tables and equations
  • Place figures inside the document, where they belong in the text, with their captions.
  • If you have high-resolution versions of the figures, send them as extra files.
  • Tables and equations made in Word carry over as they are. Nothing in your figures, tables, equations or findings is changed when the article is laid out.
References and citations
  • Cite the sources your work builds on, and list them at the end of the article.
  • Keep the citations in the text and the reference list in one consistent style.
  • Citations and references are never edited by the editorial office’s tools.
Author responsibilities
  • Mention any financial or non-financial interests related to the work in your message to the editor.
  • Disclose any use of generative AI in preparing the article, other than basic spelling and grammar checking. AI tools cannot be credited as authors.
  • Articles are published under CC BY 4.0; you keep the copyright.
  • Read the full editorial policies.
