Editorial policies

Draft policies for approval by the editorial office, based on COPE Core Practices.

Editorial review

Every article is read by the journal's editor, who decides whether to publish it. The editor may accept an article as it is, ask the authors for changes before deciding, or decline it, and always tells the authors the reason.

The editor may ask a specialist colleague for an opinion on a technical point. Articles are not sent outside Engineering City without the authors' agreement.

Conflicts of interest

Authors must mention financial and non-financial interests related to the work in their message to the editor. If the editor has a conflict with a submission (for example, a joint project with an author), another administrator decides on it.

Use of generative AI

Generative AI tools cannot be credited as authors. Authors must disclose any use of generative AI in preparing the article, other than basic spelling and grammar checking.

The editorial office uses automated tools to convert submitted documents and to suggest formatting, captions, image descriptions and keywords. Every suggestion is reviewed by the editor, and no tool changes an article's technical content, figures, tables, equations or findings.

Open access and licensing

Articles are published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0) unless otherwise stated. Authors retain copyright. There are no submission or publication fees.

Corrections

Corrections to a published issue are published as a new version of the issue. Substantive corrections are noted in the article; retractions follow COPE guidance and keep the original article accessible.

Appeals and complaints

Authors may appeal a decision once, in writing to the editorial office, explaining why the decision should be reconsidered.
